Description

Olde Thatch is a house located in Weston-in-Gordano, dating from the early 17th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century and early 20th century. The building is constructed of whitewashed rubble and features a hipped thatched roof with a ridge and gable stack. It has a two-room layout with a through passage plan, forming an L-shape due to a one-and-a-half-storey rear wing.

The house stands two storeys tall. The front elevation includes two ground floor two-light casements on either side of a 19th-century door, which has raised fillets, positioned to the right of the ridge stack. The left side of the building has a two-light casement with a timber lintel on the ground floor and first floor, along with a small blocked stair light on the ground floor to the right. The rear wing has a blocked door. The right side features a small single casement on the first floor and a brick lean-to at the rear right, which includes a plate-glass window.

At the rear, there are two-light casements located under the eaves, a 20th-century two-light window on the ground floor to the right, and a rear passage door within the lean-to. The lean-to also has two-light and three-light windows, as well as a door. Inside the rear wing, there is a door and a two-light casement in the gable end.

The interior showcases deep-chamfered beams with run-out stops on both the ground and first floors. The room to the left contains a 19th-century partition wall with a dresser, a 20th-century fireplace beneath the ridge stack, and a spice cupboard in the rear wall. A winder stair is located behind a plank and batten door to the front left.
