Description

Weston Lodge is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble, now stuccoed, with a double Roman tiled roof and brick stacks. The roof is hipped over the side wings. The house is arranged in an H-shape, comprising a central range flanked by cross wings to the left and right. It has three storeys and originally had a 2:5:2 window arrangement, though some windows have been replaced. The windows are mostly sashes in plain reveals. Five windows on the second floor of the central range are blind. Metal replacement sashes are present in two bays to the left and two bays to the left of the central range, while the ground floor has larger 15-pane sashes to the right. A central porch features a rusticated round-arched opening with a keystone, a parapet, and a cornice. It contains a half-glazed inner door, with similar blind openings to either side and a string course. A plinth and cornice are also present. The right return side has four bays with sashes at the first floor and two 15-pane sashes at ground floor to the left, and two sashes to the right. The cross wing is slightly lower than the main range, with the roof hidden behind the parapet. The left return side has a cellar door with a segmental head and a single-storey rubble and brick lean-to, along with one first-floor sash. The lean-to has a two-light casement window to the rear. The rear elevation also has a 2:5:2 bay arrangement. The cross wings display sashes in plain reveals, while the central bays have four sashes and a door (second from the left) on the ground floor, two sashes with thick glazing bars in exposed boxes to the left on the first floor, two 20th-century sashes to the right, and a central round-headed sash with splayed glazing bars. The second floor has five six-pane sashes in exposed boxes. The interior was not fully inspected but includes windows with internal shutters, and a room to the front left has an Adam-style fireplace.
