Description

The White Hart is an inn that dates from the mid-18th century, with later alterations and additions from the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and is rendered, with a colourwashed left return. The building features a double Roman tiled roof with raised coped verges, crestings, and brick gable stacks.

The structure consists of front and rear parallel ranges, with a lower wing to the left. The main range is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are sashes in exposed boxes on the first floor. The ground floor includes two 19th-century plate-glass windows with mullion and transom, along with upper lights. These windows are flanked by pilasters, and there is a frieze with shaped sides and a cornice above. The central window, which was formerly a door, is a two-light plate-glass window with pilasters and a pediment on brackets. A string course runs at mid-ground floor level, and there are quoin strips, a parapet, and coping.

Attached to the left is a lower two-storey wing that has a half-glazed door in a stone surround with a cornice. The left return of the wing previously had two windows, which have been replaced by 20th-century glazed double doors and a plate-glass window. The rear of the wing features a pitched roof behind a parapet, a four-pane sash window, and a glazed door. The rear of the main range has three plate-glass sashes, with a wider central pane on the first floor, while the ground floor has a plate-glass sash to the right and a 20th-century single-storey lean-to to the left, which connects the inn to a single-storey former outhouse. The interior has not been inspected.
