Description
This is a group of nine 17th century headstones located approximately 16 meters southeast of the porch of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Cropredy. The headstones are arranged in a row along the church path leading to the south porch and are primarily made of boldly carved ironstone.
From left to right, the headstones are as follows: 1) dated 1631; 2) dated 1699, decorated with swags and cherub heads; 3) dated 1699, featuring swags and sticks; 4) dated 1698, adorned with a twisted rope and a winged cherub head; 5) dated 1679, with an erolled head and cartouche; 6) dated 1663, inscribed to Elizabeth, wife of John Wolgrave; 7) dated 1693; 8) dated 1663, decorated with Ionic pilasters; and 9) dated 1663, featuring rustic carving.
