Oxford Canal Flights Mill

Flights Mill, now a house, is a mill and millhouse dating from the 18th century, with possible earlier elements, and was converted in the 20th century. It is built of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with rebuilt brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout with the mill attached to the house. It stands two storeys plus attics. The front of the house features a two-window arrangement with the doorway located to the right of centre, flanked by large six-pane sash windows. The first floor has twelve-pane sashes, all with chamfered lintels. The mill section to the left appears largely rebuilt and includes 20th-century casements and the current main entrance, but it also features a carved stone head. The roof has stacks on either side and gabled 20th-century dormers. A datestone on the gable of the house is inscribed with the year 1799. There is a single-storey bay to the right, and the rear and rear wing contain additional old casements and sashes. A mill race runs beneath segmental arches, where a cast-iron and wood wheel can be seen, although the paddles are missing.
