Description

The Rock of Gibraltar Public House is a late 18th-century inn, now a public house, located in Bletchingdon. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone with ashlar dressings, featuring a gabled stone slate roof, with an older tile roof to the rear wing. Brick stacks are visible at the end and ridge, along with a brick-finished end stack to the rear wing. The building is in an L-shape, with a rear left wing. It has two storeys and an attic, originally with a 4-window front. A gabled 20th-century porch is situated to the left of the centre. A two-storey canted bay window occupies the centre, featuring glazing-bar casements. Stone lintels top the 6-pane sashes, and an 8-pane sash is located on the left; three hipped-roof dormers are positioned above. The two-storey rear wing has a 20th-century single-storey extension to its left. A stair-turret in the centre of the rear adjoins a late 18th-century outshut to the right. The interior includes light chamfered beams, while the first floor was not inspected.
