Description

The Grange is a house dating back to the 17th century, with significant rebuilding and extensions in the 1840s. It is constructed from regular coursed ironstone rubble, with a stone slate roof to the 17th-century part and a Welsh slate roof to the 19th-century part. Six stone stacks are present: at the ends, on the ridge, and laterally. The house follows a U-shaped plan, with a 19th-century garden front and a wing to the rear left, and a 17th-century wing to the right.

The front of the house presents two distinct builds. The left part, dating from the 1840s, has two gabled bays, with an entrance to the second bay. The door is hooded with label stops. A mullioned and transomed window on the first floor has similar details. Carved bargeboards are present. The 17th-century part to the right has a steeply pitched gabled bay with an extension to the right. It has two storeys plus an attic. Single mullioned and transomed windows are on the ground floor, and two-light stone mullioned windows with crown glass are in the attic. Ironstone quoins are visible on the right side. The extension has a lateral stone stack.

The garden front is in a Tudor revival style, with three bays – a gabled bay to the left and a two-storey section to the right. It has a three-window range. Four mullioned and transomed windows are on the ground floor, each with a hood mould. Three similar windows are on the first floor, and a small attic window is to the left. Bargeboards are present. A two-centred arched door leads to a study.
