Description
The barn at Manor House, likely built in the 15th century, is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof. It has a gabled stone porch on the north side, positioned at the fourth bay, and includes slit windows and angle buttresses. The entrance to the porch is marked by an arch with a keystone and stone surrounds. The barn consists of six bays, with quoins on the fifth bay suggesting that the sixth bay may have been added later.
Inside, the roof is supported by arched braced tie beams, trenched purlins, windbraces, and a ridge with yoke and common rafters, some of which have been renewed. The construction is of raised cruck style. It is believed to have been built by Abingdon Abbey and is noted for its similarity to the 14th-century barn at New College in Swalcliffe, although it is considered to have a more modest character and workmanship.
