Description
The Haynes Lift Bridge, located on the Oxford Canal, is an accommodation lift-bridge with origins in the late 18th century and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a tilting wooden plank deck, wooden handrails, and two balance beams set at a raking angle. The bridge is supported by brick abutments with concrete sills and has brick wing walls with trailing edges and stone rubbing blocks on the faces that face the canal. This bridge is part of an important series of lift-bridges on the Oxford Canal, representing a type that is now rare in England.
