Description
Haddons Lift Bridge, located on the Oxford Canal, is an accommodation lift bridge with origins dating back to the late 18th century, though it has undergone later alterations. The bridge features a tilting wooden plank deck, wooden handrails, and two balance beams that are set at a raking angle. It is supported by brick abutments with concrete sills, and has brick wing walls with trailing edges and stone rubbing blocks on the faces facing the canal. This bridge is part of an important series of lift bridges on the Oxford Canal, which are now considered rare in England.
