Description

Warkworth Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone and limestone rubble, with a tiled roof and brick and stone stacks. The building has a four-unit lobby entry plan and two storeys with an attic, extending over four bays. The entrance is in the third bay from the left and features a 20th-century stone porch. Two 3-light stone mullioned windows, each with a square hood, are positioned to the left. To the right is a similar 5-light window. A two-storey bay window, with 6-light stone mullioned windows on both floors, stands to the right of the façade. On the first floor, the first and second bays from the left have 2-3 light stone mullioned windows, and a similar 4-light window is to the right. There are 20th-century roof lights. The original entrance is at the rear. A gabled porch, also two storeys and attic in height, is located in the second bay from the left, featuring a stone doorway with a 4-centred head. The inner doorway has a moulded wooden surround and a 17th-century nine-panel studded door. All windows at the rear are 20th century, and the ground floor has 20th-century extensions. Inside, a ground floor room features a fireplace with a 17th-century panelled surround and an overmantel with half columns and bosses. There is a panel, S.W.S./1658, which is not in its original location. A stone with similar initials and date 1639 that was previously recorded has disappeared.
