Description
Thorpe Cottage and Castle Farm Cottage are a pair of cottages dating from the early 18th century. They are built from coursed ironstone rubble and feature an artificial stone slate roof with brick stacks. The cottages are two storeys high and have six bays in total.
Thorpe Cottage, located on the left, has a doorway positioned to the right of the centre, which features a wooden lintel and a 20th-century half-glazed door. There are two-light windows on either side of the door, also with wooden lintels and 20th-century wooden casements. A similar window is found on the first floor. Castle Farm Cottage, on the right, has three windows on each floor, all with wooden lintels and a mix of two- and three-light 20th-century wooden casements. The entrance to Castle Farm Cottage is at the rear.
Inside, Thorpe Cottage contains a set of chamfered beams on the ground floor and an open fireplace with a bread oven. The interior of Castle Farm Cottage has not been inspected but is reported to have similar beams and an open fireplace. The cottages are included in the listing for their group value.
