Description
Bodicote House is a large house that now serves as the offices of the Cherwell District Council. It was built in the 18th century, with additions from the 19th century, and was remodeled in 1878 by the architect John Thomas Lee.
The main elevation features ironstone ashlar with regularly coursed ironstone rubble on the sides, topped with a Welsh slate roof and stone ridge stacks. The building has a complex plan and stands two storeys plus an attic. It has three bays and a three-window range, with two bay windows flanking a central doorway. The panelled door includes a fanlight, and the porch has an open pediment supported by Tuscan columns. The ground floor and first floor of the bay windows have keystoned sashes, while the attic features 20th-century windows. There are continuous stone sills for the windows on each storey, flat bands at the first floor and attic levels, and a moulded stone eaves cornice. The building is topped with a stone parapet and stone copings, and there is a Victorian stone porch at the side entrance on the right.
The interior has not been inspected.
