Description

Corner Cottage and Thatch Stone is a house that has been divided into two residences. Originally built in the 17th century, it was remodeled in the 20th century. The building is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a 20th-century tile roof. It has four stone stacks located at the ends and along the ridge. The structure has a four-unit plan and is a single storey plus attic, with a four-window range.

There are two doors: a central six-panelled door with a moulded wood surround and flat hood, and a 20th-century door to the right with a wooden lintel. To the left, there are two four-light 20th-century casements with wooden lintels, while to the right, two three-light casements also have wooden lintels. The attic features four three-light metal casements with wooden lintels. The left side has stone coping.

At the rear of Corner Cottage, there is a tall gabled staircase projection on the left, which has two stone mullioned windows on the first floor and in the attic. To the right, there are three-light stone mullioned windows on both the ground and first floors, complete with hood moulds and label stops. The stonework on the mullions has been partly renewed. A plank door to the left of the staircase has a moulded wood surround, and there are moulded kneelers to the coping on the right.

Inside Corner Cottage, there are stop-chamfered beams and a chamfered bressumer above the inglenook fireplace. The floors are made of stone flags, and there is a wide wooden spiral staircase leading to the attic, which continues in stone down to the cellar. An upstairs bedroom features a four-centred arched stone fireplace and a wide plank floor.
