Description
FENCOTT AND MURCOTT MURCOTT SP51NE 3/29 Pigeon House Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse. Possibly C16, and C17. Coursed and random limestone rubble with wooden lintels; thatch and old plain-tile roofs with rubble and brick stacks. 2-unit through-passage plan, originally smaller. One storey plus attic and 2 storeys. Irregular front, facing away from the lane, has the larger lower section to left and the C17 tiled bay to right. Earlier bays have, to extreme left, a doorway in a C20 porch, a small 2-light casement, and, to right, a large blocked doorway. The adjoining C17 bay has wide stop-chamfered lintels to renewed casements on both floors. The thatched roof has a rubble chimney to right with 2 diagonal brick shafts; the chimney projection on the gable wall is flanked by 2 small windows with heavy stop-chamfered lintels. Rear of lower range has a further casement, a half dormer, a small stair window and a doorway. Interior: lower range has a 3-bay floor structure with heavily-chamfered intersecting beams and similar lateral beams; the large stack with wide blocked fireplace and passage to rear is probably a C17 insertion. The outer walls are very thick with an internal batter. Higher bay has an open fireplace with stop-chamfered lintel, and the flanking windows have stop-chamfered internal lintels.
