Description
Pigeon House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and random limestone rubble with wooden lintels, featuring thatch and old plain-tile roofs along with rubble and brick stacks. The building has a 2-unit through-passage plan and is one storey plus attic and two storeys high. The irregular front faces away from the lane, with a larger lower section on the left and a 17th-century tiled bay on the right.
On the extreme left, there is a doorway in a 20th-century porch, a small two-light casement, and a large blocked doorway to the right. The adjoining 17th-century bay has wide stop-chamfered lintels above renewed casements on both floors. The thatched roof features a rubble chimney on the right with two diagonal brick shafts, and the chimney projection on the gable wall is flanked by two small windows with heavy stop-chamfered lintels.
At the rear of the lower range, there is an additional casement, a half dormer, a small stair window, and a doorway. Inside, the lower range has a three-bay floor structure with heavily-chamfered intersecting beams and similar lateral beams. The large stack has a wide blocked fireplace, and the passage to the rear is likely a 17th-century addition. The outer walls are very thick with an internal batter. The higher bay contains an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered lintel, and the flanking windows have stop-chamfered internal lintels.
