Description
Pigeon Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble and features wooden lintels, topped with a thatch roof that has a partly rebuilt brick ridge stack. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and consists of one storey plus an attic. The front is mostly hidden by the 20th-century extension but includes a converted doorway to the right of the centre and a three-light casement window in the right bay. The rear has irregular casements, many of which have been altered or renewed, along with a rounded stair projection that is nearly aligned with the stack and retains a small window. The left gable wall features windows on the ground floor, attic, and loft. Inside, there are large back-to-back open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers, an inglenook, and a bread oven, as well as chamfered beams, a spiral stair, and a clasped-purlin roof with ridge beams. The 20th-century extension is not of special architectural interest, but the cottage is included for its group value.
