Description
Paul's is a late 16th-century house located on the west side of Water Lane in Hawkhurst. It features a timber frame and is tile hung, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has a lobby entry plan consisting of three framed bays and a fire bay. It stands two storeys high with a garret and has a half-hipped roof, along with a tall cluster of stacks positioned to the centre left.
On the first floor, there are two four-light leaded wooden casements with mullioned sidelights, a three-light casement to the centre left, and additional four-light leaded casements on the ground floor to the centre right and left, with the sidelights exposed to the interior. A boarded door is located to the centre left, sheltered by a large hipped porch. At the rear, there is a catslide outshut.
Inside, the roof features clasped purlins, diminished principal rafters, and windbraces. The interior also includes large scantling chamfered beams and substantial brick inglenook fireplaces.
