Description
Beechurst is a house located on the north side of Cranbrook Road in Goudhurst. It dates from the 17th century and was extended around 1900. The building features a timber-framed structure that is tile hung on a red brick base, which has some irregular header bond, and includes weather boarding on the right return. The roof is plain tiled.
The house has two storeys and a garret, with the older wing on the right stepping down and featuring a half-hipped roof, along with a hipped rear wing that has a metal casement window on the first floor and a boarded door at the end of the right side. The main range, which is from the early 20th century, has a gabled roof adorned with a moulded and pendant barge board on the left return, and moulded stacks at the center and right.
On the first floor, there are three corbelled mullioned and leaded windows, and on the ground floor, there are two windows with transoms, along with a central boarded door that has a flat roof. The left return features a two-storey bay with mullioned windows on both the first and ground floors, supporting a slightly jettied weather boarded gable. The quality of the early 20th-century work is notable, as seen in the cast iron rain-water hoppers and detailed joinery. The house is included for its group value.
