Description

The Stephen Monkton memorial and railings are located about 20 meters southeast of the chancel of the Church of All Saints in Brenchley. This late 18th-century monument features an urn on a pedestal made of Portland stone, accompanied by cast iron railings. The pedestal is tapering, with a moulded base, and is topped with an urn that has guilloche ornamentation. The railings consist of square section verticals with elaborate finials and columnar corner standards adorned with tall spike finials. An inscription panel on the east side commemorates Stephen Monkton. This is a high-quality monument situated in an outstanding churchyard.
