Description
The Blandford monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard at the southeast corner of the nave and porch of the Church of the Holy Cross. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of Portland stone with wrought iron railings. The monument features a step base and a moulded plinth, with panelled sides and ends that have reverse curve corners. It includes corner pilasters adorned with Gothic panels, a plain frieze, and an elaborately moulded stepped top. The monument commemorates Henry Blandford, who died in 1826, along with other family members. The surrounding railings are set on a low stone base and have spikes at the corners and necked cross/barb points elsewhere. There is a matching gate on the south side, which has sweeps leading up to the top rail and a middle rail decorated with X and rosette ornamentation.
