Description
The Village Hall, which was likely formerly a school, dates back to 1857. It is constructed from local lias stone that is roughly cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The building features a Welsh slate roof that is set between stepped coped gables, adorned with gabletted and crocketted finials. It is a single-storey structure with two bays. The windows are chamfer-mullioned, consisting of four lights with diamond cast iron lattice lights, and are set beneath square labels.
At the center, there is a projecting gabled porch that has a chamfered pointed outer arch with a label and a segmental pointed inner arch, which contains a pair of boarded doors. A plaque on the gable reads "Erected by Elizabeth Richardson 1857," while above the doorway is inscribed "rebuilt by AS 1909." There is a quatrefoil vent in the west gable and a small extension at the rear. The interior has not been seen.
Surrounding the semi-circular lawn in front of the building is a low stone wall with shaped Ham stone copings, topped by cast iron railings that reach about 1.5 meters in height and feature bud and spear point tops. There are matching gates in the center, opposite the doorway, designed on the curve with barbed spear points on the rails. The walls continue at higher levels along the sides of the building. This is a picturesque structure situated in a prominent corner location at the southern entrance to the village.
