Description

Manor House, dating from the 17th century and restored in the early 20th century, stands in Sparkford. Constructed of local lias stone with squared blocks, it features ham stone dressings and a stone slate roof between stepped coped gables with obelisk finals. Stone chimney stacks have moulded caps. The two-storey main block has an attic and a four-bay south elevation. Original features include a plinth, a continuous string course between floors, an eaves course, and hollow-chamfered mullioned windows with rectangular leaded lights and iron-framed opening lights. These windows are three-light except for the lower bay one, which is four-light; the window in the lower bay four is wider and deeper. A single-storey gabled porch with a four-centred outer arch and a cambered arched inner doorway with a boarded floor is located in the lower bay three. Later extensions, designed to match the original, have been added to the side and rear, incorporating a complete cottage on the north-east corner. The interior was not inspected.
