Description

The headstone for Richard Wells is located immediately east of the north transept of the Church of All Saints in Brenchley. This early 19th-century headstone is made of freestone and features a round top with scrolled shoulders. At the top, it is carved with the eye of God surrounded by descending rays, and there are festoons carved on either side. The inscription is presented in an open book, which is carved in relief, with a swag of material below it. This headstone commemorates Richard Wells, who died in 1821. There are also two bodystones to the east, one of which is broken.
