Description
Blackberry Cottage and Summerhill Cottage is a house pair located on Roger's Rough Road in Goudhurst. The building dates from the 16th century or earlier and was clad in the 18th century. It features a timber frame covered with red brick and tile hanging on the first floor, along with tile hanging and weatherboarding on the return elevations. The roof is plain tiled and is likely a former hall house with a cross wing.
The structure has two storeys and includes a two-storey and basement cross wing, which has a half-hipped roof with gablets. The cross wing projects to the right and has stacks located at the centre left and rear right. On the right side, there are three three-light and one two-light wooden casements on each floor, with boarded doors to the left and right, both topped with hipped hoods. There is a weatherboarded outshot to the left, and the right return features a glazing bar sash and a basement casement. The cross wing is built on a basement made of worked sandstone blocks.
