Description
BENENDEN TQ83SW STANDEN STREET 1350-0/3/102 (East side) 09/06/52 Old Standen II* House. Late C15 open hall-house with crosswing to right hand side, late C16 chimney and C18 extension and refronting to left hand side with C20 gable and fenestration. Timber-framed building with only the brackets exposed to the front elevation, but exposed close-studding to rear and jettied overhang to cross wing. Ground floor to front red brick in Flemish bond, 1st floor plastered but cross wing to right faced in brick to ground floor and weatherboarded above and left side painted brick to ground floor and tile hung above. Steeply pitched old tiled roof with brick chimneystack. 2 storeys and attics 4 windows. C20 casements. C20 dormer with gabled projection. C20 gabled porch. Interior has roll moulded and crenellated dais beam and open fireplaces with wooden bressumer. 2 3-centred arched doorways to cross wing with floriate carved spandrels, 1st floor has jowled posts and elaborate crown posts with most unusual rose carving to 4 head braces and octagonal crownpost to cross wing. Rear wing has early C17 bressumer.
