Description
Coggers is a Grade II* listed house located on Walkhurst Road in Benenden. This late 15th-century open hall-house has been restored in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster infilling, and the first floor on the north front juts out over a brick ground floor. The house has a steeply pitched tiled roof with gablets and an off-center brick chimneystack. Early 20th-century mullioned windows are present, along with a doorcase designed in a traditional style. The left side of the ground floor showcases early 19th-century brickwork and an Invicta firemark.
Inside, the building contains a roll-moulded dais beam and a spere truss that screens off an area. There is a late 16th-century spine beam supporting an inserted hall floor, along with an octagonal crown post featuring four head braces and ogee arched bracing above the tie beam. The upper chamber walls are decorated with pargetted designs, and there is an arched tie beam in the upper principal chamber. The original wide floorboards and diamond mullioned windows at the rear add to the historical character of the property.
