Description

Feoffee Cottages is a row of cottages located on Walkhurst Road in Benenden. The exterior dates from the 18th century, with a possible 17th-century L-shaped range behind and 19th-century additions on the right side and rear. The cottages are set endwise to the road and are two storeys high with five windows. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, while the first floor is tile hung, and the left end gable is also tile hung. The windows are modern tripartite casements, and there are three doorcases featuring 19th-century wooden pediment-shaped weather hoods. A brick chimneystack is located on the left side, with two additional brick ridge stacks added in the 19th century. The front range has a roof with staggered purlins. On the rear left side, there is likely a 17th-century section with a ground floor of red brick and a first floor that is partially weatherboarded, with some square framing visible at the time of the survey. The roof is steeply pitched and hipped, featuring a gabled dormer and one triple sash window, along with a 19th-century pedimented weather hood.
