Description
3 and 4 Standen Street are a pair of houses dating from the early 18th century, with an outshut likely added in the early 19th century and some internal alterations from the same period. The buildings are weatherboarded on a brick base and feature a hipped peg tiled roof with a central brick chimney stack. They are two storeys high and have five windows, with casement windows that include two three-light windows and three two-light windows, many of which retain their original leaded lights. There are two early 19th-century plank doors. The early 19th-century outshut at the rear has casement windows. Inside, there are two open fireplaces that still have remnants of a bread oven, along with chamfered axial beams that have run-out stops. Number 4 contains an early 18th-century wooden staircase with square newel posts and stick balusters. The first floor features jowled posts with a rounded profile and diagonal tension braces, along with a plank door and wide oak floor beams. The roof is constructed with pegged rafters and a ridgepiece.
