Description
Summerhill is a house dating from the 16th century, originally designed as a lobby entrance house. It was refronted in the 19th century and restored in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with a red brick facade on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor. It features a tiled roof that is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right, topped with a tall central brick chimneystack. The house has two storeys and attics, with four windows. The first floor mainly has 20th-century casement windows, while the ground floor includes two canted bays and a gabled porch. There are also 20th-century extensions at the rear. Inside, the dining room showcases a roll-moulded spine beam and cross beams, some featuring run-out stops and others with bar stops, along with an open fireplace. The original 16th-century floorboards remain. The roof was replaced in the 18th century.
