Description
Springhill is a house dating back to the 18th century, with a front facade dating from around 1820. It likely has an 18th-century core. The ground floor is constructed of red brick with grey brick headers, while the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is hipped and covered in old tiles, with a brick chimney stack on the right-hand side. The house is two storeys high and has three windows at the front. The ground floor windows are 12-pane sashes with blind boxes, while the first floor windows are 16-pane sashes. A central doorcase features a flat wooden hood, decorative paterae, and pilasters. The door itself is six-panelled and has a rectangular fanlight, set within panelled reveals. A 20th-century extension, built in a matching style, adjoins the left-hand side. Some original 18th-century brickwork is visible on the right-hand side of the building. At the rear, you can find an external brick stack and an original casement window with leaded lights. An attached rear wing was initially one storey high, but was subsequently extended to two storeys in the 20th century. Inside, the house retains some 18th-century beams, an early 19th-century staircase with scrolled ends to the treads and a column newel, fireplaces from the period, and plank doors. Some floorboards appear to be reused from the 16th century.
