Description

Manor Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed house that dates back to the 12th century. It is primarily built of stone, with some flint rubble and stone dressings. The house features a late medieval timber-framed wing and underwent extensions and raising in the 16th and 17th centuries. Parts of the house were re-fronted in the 17th century and again in the mid-19th century, along with minor renovations.

The oldest sections of the building include some small rectangular windows with chamfered frames, most of which are now blocked, and remnants of round arches that have been filled in. A buttress is also present. The southeast unit has inserted 16th-century window frames made of brick with chamfered edges, one of which retains a blocked mullioned oak frame. The west gable has been cemented.

The later wing features a brick-nogged timber frame that is exposed on the east and north sides, showcasing various phases of construction, including close-studding. Other walls are made of brick in both English and Flemish Garden Wall bonds, with some featuring rubbed flat arches. The roof is tiled.

The medieval hall is oriented east-west, with a lower and narrower east wing. At the west end, there is a north wing that forms an L-shape, both wings being two storeys high. A large tapered stack is attached to the west side, and to the north of this is a Victorian west elevation that has three windows. The fenestration throughout the house is irregular and varied, with casement windows. A mid-19th century gabled porch with decorative bargeboards and a half-glazed door adds to the character of the building.
