Description
White's Cottage and White's Lodge, along with the attached wall and gate piers, date from around 1907. The buildings are constructed of red brick with an applied timber frame, featuring plaster infill and weatherboarding, topped with a plain tiled roof. The earliest part of the structure is likely the walls and gate piers that form the boundary to White's Lodge. The walls stand approximately 8 to 10 feet high, tapering down in several stages along the roadside and extending about 100 yards in total. At intervals, there are piers with cornices and ball finials, particularly at the gateway to White's Lodge and flanking the roadside elevation of White's Cottage. A round-headed window with louvred shutters is set into the wall, which is raised above it with a shaped gable.
White's Cottage itself is two storeys with an attic, featuring a hipped roof to the right and exposed studs on both sides. There is a hipped dormer on the right return. The first floor has three wooden casements, while the ground floor has two casements and a half-glazed door to the right. The left return wing includes a garret and a double-span gabled roof, with two wooden casements on all three floors. The ground floor features mullioned and transomed windows, along with a central glazed door. The left end block is a later addition.
