Description

Whites is a house dating to 1905, built by Davis and Leavey, builders of Goudhurst. It is constructed of red brick with painted wooden details and has a plain tiled roof. The design is in the Neo-Georgian style.

The front of the house has two storeys, with a plinth, brick quoins, and a moulded modillion eaves cornice to the three-span roof. A central open pediment-shaped gable is flanked by projecting hipped wings with stacks to the left and right; a further stack is located to the rear centre left (on the garden front cross-range), and a projecting outbuilding is situated to the left. A central stair window with a narrow glazing bar sash is located on the first floor to the left, while two glazing bar sashes are present on each floor to the right. The central entrance features a panelled door within a moulded brick surround. A single-storey range projects to the left, and to the left return is a catslide outshut to the main range. The side elevations are three-bay, featuring glazing bar sashes with louvred shutters.

The garden front presents a formal elevation with two storeys and an attic, again with a plinth, brick quoins, and a moulded wooden modillion eaves cornice to the hipped roof, incorporating three hipped dormers. The fenestration is regular, with three glazing bar sashes on the first floor and two on the ground floor, all fitted with louvred shutters. A central half-glazed door is set within a doubled-columned porch with a cornice.

The interior, as revealed in sales particulars, includes an oak-panelled entrance hall, a panelled dining room, and a turned baluster dog-leg staircase.
