Description
The walled garden and summerhouse, located about 50 metres southeast of Finchcocks, is a Grade II listed structure dating from the early 19th century, with the summerhouse added in the mid-20th century. Constructed from red and blue brick, the walls stand approximately 10 feet high and feature coping and a plinth. They enclose a square area measuring about 50 yards by 50 yards, with the corners ramped to form attenuated piers. There are simple doorways located at the center of the north and south walls, and greenhouses are attached to the north wall. A brick summerhouse is situated at the southwest exterior corner, featuring a plain tiled roof. This single-storey structure has a pyramidal roof with two pitches and a finial. The summerhouse includes scrolled consoles supporting the lintel and a cornice at the ceiling. The design was created by Wellesley and Wills.
