Description

This building complex consists of a barn, cartshed, and brick walls, located about 40 meters northwest of Putlands Farmhouse. It is likely from the mid-19th century. The barn is weatherboarded on brick footings and has a slate roof, while the cartshed is made of brick and also features a slate roof. The brick walls enclose a yard.

The barn faces west into a small yard that opens onto the road, with the cartshed positioned at right angles to the north. The yard is completed by a brick wall that runs parallel to the road. The barn includes a rear shippen outshut that looks into a larger yard to the east, and it has left and right outshuts flanking a central porch. The cartshed is designed with two bays.

The exterior of the barn features a half-hipped roof and is likely three bays wide. The central porch has a hipped roof and is fitted with 19th-century plank doors that have strap hinges. There are paired loft doors on the left (north) return. The roof extends down as a catslide on posts to the open-fronted rear shippen. The cartshed has a hipped roof and a central post that divides the bays. The brick wall to the west rises to meet the west wall of the cartshed and the south end of the barn.

This small-scale planned yard creates an attractive grouping with the farmhouse, which is set back to the south, and the oasthouse located beyond the garden to the south.
