Description

Putlands Farmhouse, along with its associated garden walls and railings, dates to approximately 1850 or earlier. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof and brick stacks. A brick garden wall runs along the sides of the garden, and cast iron railings with spearhead finials enclose the west side, including a matching garden gate.

The house faces west, set back from the road and featuring a long, rectangular garden to the front. It is a double-depth, two-room-wide dwelling with a central entrance and a separately-roofed service block to the rear. The main block has a hipped slate roof and end stacks, while the service block has a gabled roof and a left-end stack. The front elevation is symmetrical with three bays, and a flat-roofed 20th-century porch with a timber front door occupies the centre. Windows are set within flat rubbed brick arches and contain late 19th/early 20th-century four-pane, horned sash windows. Brick coping tops the garden walls.

The interior was inaccessible during a 1989 survey.

The farmhouse combines well with nearby structures: a barn and an oasthouse (listed separately).
