Description

Montpelier Cottage is a house, originally dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, later subdivided and with a shop extension added in the mid-19th century. The original house has a pebbledashed ground floor and a first floor clad in tiles, topped by a tiled roof with chimney stacks at each end. It is two storeys high with a three-window front. The attic space is accommodated by three flat-roofed dormers featuring 20th-century pivoting casement windows. The first floor windows are mainly 19th-century casements, although one on the right side is a 20th-century pivoting casement. The ground floor has 20th-century windows and a doorcase with a wooden trelliswork porch. An extension, built in the mid-19th century, adjoins the right side, forming an ā€˜L’ shape. Constructed of brown brick with a slate roof, it is three storeys high and has three windows. A full-height splayed bay window connects to the main house, with 19th-century windows on the ground floor and 20th-century pivoting casements above. The Mount Ephraim elevation includes sashes with marginal glazing and a mid-20th-century wooden shopfront with metal trelliswork.
