Description
Childeric Cottage and Childeric House is a 17th-century farmhouse located on the north side of Maidstone Road in Mereworth. The front is rendered, concealing the timber frame structure, which is exposed on the sides. The roof is uneven and tiled, featuring a half-hipped section to the east and an external chimney to the west with coupled diagonally-placed stacks. There is a large ridge stack in the center of the roof. The building is two storeys high with an irregular facade of four windows. On the first floor to the right, there are two shallow casements, while the ground floor has two casements on the left and one on the right. A central two-storey projecting porch with a hipped gable features a half-glazed door and a small casement above. The building has an L-shape plan with a short projecting wing at the rear and part of a catslide roof. Inside, there is a bread oven.
