Description
New Barns, located on Lavender’s Road and also known as New Barns on St Leonard’s Street, is an early 19th-century house. The house is built of stuccoed brick with a low-pitched slate roof featuring hips. It has two storeys and five windows. The sash windows have glazing bars, and the ground floor windows extend to ground level. A projecting porch with a flat roof supported by fluted Doric columns shelters a pair of 20th-century glazed doors. A two-storey splayed bay was added to the left side of the house in the mid-19th century. The interior retains features of the period, including a good staircase with a cut string and a wreathed mahogany handrail, along with good quality joinery and decorative marble chimneypieces.
