Broadwater Farmhouse

Farmhouse. The core of this farmhouse dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with a front range built in the 18th century and refenestrated in the early 19th century. Later additions were made to the south in the late 19th century, with 20th-century bays added more recently. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with grey brick headers. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped section to the north and a gablet to the south. There is a central chimney stack, with smaller chimney stacks set diagonally. The farmhouse is two storeys and has attics in the gable end, displaying five windows on the west front. The west front features two central gables with finials, flanked by smaller ones, and irregularly spaced windows. The windows are early 19th-century iron casements with octagonal panes and coloured glass in diamond shapes. A stringcourse and plinth are visible. A centrally placed, gabled porch, built in the early 19th century, has a cambered arch, a six-panel door, decorative bargeboards, and rustic supports. A brick lean-to is situated on the north side, with a sliding window and ragstone above. The south elevation displays an external stone chimney stack. A late 19th-century brick extension is present to the south, with additional 20th-century bays and twelve-pane sashes or cambered casements to the west.

Inside the original wing, a north ground floor room retains massive curved brackets and a chamfered spine beam. The south ground floor room features an exposed spine beam, six-panelled early 19th-century doors, and a 19th-century staircase.
