Description

The stable block, located about 35 meters northwest of Great Forge Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with blue headers, and the returns are weatherboarded, topped with a peg-tile roof. The cartshed, which is also weatherboarded, features a peg-tile roof.

The building faces west and is rectangular in shape, comprising a three-bay stable with an adjoining cartshed at the north end. The stable block is lofted and has a symmetrical three-bay front, with a half-hipped roof at both ends. The ground floor includes openings with segmental arched brick voussoirs. There is a 19th or 20th-century stable door in the center, above which is an illegible datestone. This door is flanked by 19th-century two-light casement windows, each with eight panes per light. A gabled loft doorway is situated in the center of the stable block. The east elevation features three stable doors with timber lintels. The cartshed has one window on the east elevation, paired doors, and two 20th-century two-light casements on the west elevation.

Inside, the stable block has plain partitions that are likely from the late 18th or early 19th century. The stable block has group value with Great Forge Farmhouse.
