Description

Nos. 192 and 190 on London Road are two small houses that were originally one dwelling, likely built in the 1840s. They are constructed of Flemish bond brick with blue headers and feature a slate roof and brick stacks.

The original layout consisted of two rooms wide with a central entrance, with principal rooms on the left and right heated by end stacks, and a service wing at the rear left. The house has since been divided into two, with No. 190 having a 20th-century porch block added at the right end.

The exterior faces London Road and is slightly set back from it. It has a hipped roof and stacks topped with 19th-century flared chimney pots that have moulded cornices and bases. The central front door is 20th-century and features a sloping porch canopy. There are 16-pane 19th-century sash windows, two on the ground floor and two on the first floor, all with segmental arched heads. It is noted that there may have originally been a third first-floor window in the center, according to the owner. The service wing has 20th-century windows.

The interior was not inspected during the survey in 1988, but it may still have original joinery. The property was formerly known as Foxbush Cottages and is said to have housed workers from Foxbush, which is now Sackville School located on the opposite side of London Road.
