Description

No 182 on Tonbridge Road is a small house, likely built in the 1840s. It features Flemish bond brickwork, a slate roof, and brick stacks topped with clay chimney pots. The house faces southwest and is slightly set back from the road. It has an L-shaped plan, with the main block being two rooms wide and a central entrance, along with a rear left wing that contains an additional heated room. There is a lean-to on the left side with a door leading into it from the front. The rear elevation was not inspected during the survey in 1988.

The house is two storeys tall, with a hipped roof that has deep eaves. The end stacks are adorned with flared chimney pots that have moulded cornices and bases. The front elevation is symmetrical with three bays, plus one bay for the lean-to on the left. The central front door features a segmental arched fanlight with spoke glazing bars and is sheltered by a gabled porch hood on shaped brackets. The original moulded doorcase has diamond-shaped panels below the hood brackets, but the front door itself is from the 20th century. There is a 19th-century panelled door leading into the lean-to at the left end. The windows include three on the first floor and two on the ground floor, with the outer bay windows having segmental brick arches. The left ground floor window has been reglazed with a 20th-century aluminium window, while the other windows are twelve-pane sashes.

The house forms a pair with No 180, which is adjacent at the rear right.
