Description

The View is a small house, likely dating to the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed of brick with Flemish bond, featuring blue headers on the ground floor and tile-hanging on the first floor, with a peg-tile roof. Brick stacks are present. The house is situated on a spur of high ground at Windmill Hill, facing onto the hill. It probably originally comprised two rooms wide, with a front door located to the left of centre. The main range is single depth, and a rear right outshut projects beyond the right end of the house. It is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front. A gable-ended roof incorporates a left-end stack and an axial stack. The front door is an 18th-century fielded panel door positioned to the left of centre. The ground floor has three late 19th-century plate glass sash windows, each with two panes and margin glazing. The first floor has three two-light casements, each breaking the eaves, with one light above. The right (north) end of the house features a two-tier bay window with late 19th-century or 20th-century windows with glazing bars, and a French window at ground floor level in the centre of the bay. The interior of the house has not been inspected. Despite its modest scale and external detail, the house occupies an important corner site at the entrance to the village from the north.
