Description
Park Cottage is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century. It features tile-hanging on brick footings, a peg-tile roof, and a brick stack. The house faces north, directly onto the High Street, and has a lobby entrance plan that is two rooms wide, with a rear outshut and a central entrance. A 20th-century entrance is located on the left side, leading into the outshut. There is a single-storey block at the right end, referred to as an "oasthouse" in 1949, which has been re-fronted and incorporated into the house.
The exterior is two storeys high with a gable-ended roof on the main block. It features a moulded fascia at the first floor level and a symmetrical three-window front, with a 19th-century central panelled front door beneath a horizontal porch hood. The house has a good set of what are likely original 18th-century iron casements with square leaded panes, including three-light windows in the outer bays on both the first and ground floors, and a one-light window above the front door. The right end block is tile-hung (previously weatherboarded in 1949) and has a three-light casement with a lean-to roof. The left return of the main block features a 20th-century stable door leading into the outshut, alongside a four-pane fixed window, and retains what is likely another original 18th-century two-light casement, along with a later attic window and one 20th-century window with square leaded panes. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey in 1989.
