Description
House. Built in the early 19th century, Spring House is one of a group of attractive listed buildings on the western edge of Hadlow. The exterior is primarily Flemish bond brick on the three outer sides, with the upper parts, visible above the adjacent Spring Cottage, being tile hung. It has a brick stack and chimneyshaft, and a slate roof.
The house is set back from the street and faces south, with its end wall presenting the front. It has a two-room plan with an axial stack positioned between the rooms. The front entry is to the right, with a passage and staircase behind. The house is three storeys high.
The asymmetrical two-window front features larger windows to the right of the doorway. The ground floor left window and the first floor window above it are replacement sash windows with horns and without glazing bars. The other windows are original; a 12-pane sash window on the first floor to the right, and 9-pane and 12-pane sash windows on the second floor. The front doorway has a panelled door beneath a fanlight with radial glazing bars, topped by a secondary flat-roofed hood supported on raking timber struts. All window and door openings have rubbed brick arches. The building has deep eaves with a plain soffit, and a low-pitched roof that is hipped at the front and back.
The interior has not been inspected.
