Description
Spring Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with burnt headers, featuring brick stacks and chimney shafts, and has a peg-tile roof. The house is set back from the street and faces south, with a 2-room plan that includes a central entrance lobby and rear stairs. The rooms are heated by gable-end stacks and the building has two storeys with attics and integral outshots to the rear.
The exterior is symmetrical with a three-window front. The centre first-floor window is smaller than the others, but all windows have been replaced with horned sashes that lack glazing bars and have exposed frames. The ground floor windows feature low segmental arches above them. The central front doorway has a part-glazed six-panel door beneath a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. There are two flat-roofed dormers that contain casements with glazing bars, and the mansard roof is gable-ended.
Spring Cottage is part of a varied and attractive group of buildings located on the western edge of Hadlow.
