Description
This stable, located about 25 meters west of Old Barn Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century. It features a framed construction clad in weatherboarding and has a tile roof that is half-hipped at the north end and gabletted at the south end.
The stable is built on a north-south axis and has a rectangular plan with west and east outshuts. There is a longitudinal partition that divides the ground floor into two sets of stables, each with a door at the north end. The loft above is very tall and has gaps in the floor on either side of the central partition, allowing fodder to be dropped into the mangers below. An outshut is present at the south end.
The exterior has a roof that is gabletted at both ends and slopes down as a catslide to the east and west outshuts. The north end features two doorways and a loft door, while the east side has three windows.
Inside, the original carpentry is visible, with the outshut catslides supported by somewhat awkward straight braces fixed to the joists in the loft floor.
The stable has group value with the tea room complex.
