Description
Old Barn Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1880. The ground floor is made of red brick with blue brick patterns, while the first floor is tile-hung with bands of ornamental tiles. It has a peg-tile roof and brick stacks.
The house is a double depth, north-facing structure that is rectangular in shape, featuring two rooms wide with a central entrance in a projecting porch. The rear service rooms are located in an integral outshut.
The building stands two storeys high with an attic and has a very complete exterior. The roof is coped and gabled at both ends, with end stacks that have triple shafts and corbelled coping. The front is symmetrical with three bays and a central gabled two-storey porch. Both the gable and the first floor of the porch are jettied and coved, with the first floor porch jetty supported by curved brackets. The porch features a chamfered brick outer doorway with a segmental arch and a wide 19th-century six-panel inner front door. The farmhouse retains a complete set of original windows, all with iron casements and hexagonal panes. The ground and first floor windows are transomed with three lights, and there are three-light windows in the gabled attic dormers. The left end (east) stack is particularly notable, with detached triple shafts and the outer face of the stack concealed by a brick wall with stepped gables. The rear elevation includes attic dormers and a gabled rear center projection that is tile-hung.
The interior was not inspected during the survey in 1988, but it likely retains original joinery and other features.
