Description
Atherstone Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped tile roof with brick ridge stacks, reflecting an early Georgian style. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys plus an attic, with a symmetrical five-window arrangement.
The exterior includes an ashlar plinth and a moulded brick cornice above the ground floor, topped with a modillioned cornice. The entrance is marked by a 19th or 20th-century gabled wooden porch. The windows are adorned with rubbed brick flat arches above 12-pane sash windows set in wide cased frames, and there are two hipped dormers. The two-window returns display some blocked windows, cross-casements, and 12-pane horned sashes.
At the rear, the farmhouse features a plat band above the ground floor and boxed eaves. The segmental-headed windows have sills and cross-casements, including a central stair window. The ground floor has a blocked window at the left end with an original casement, and there is an attached single-storey service wing with a single-pitch slate roof. The entrance to the right is in a parapeted porch and has a 19th-century six-panel door leading to the return, along with a small round-headed front window.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have a staircase with early 18th-century turned balusters.
